About this tool
200 KB gives enough room for a typed resume, a mark sheet or a short form of about two to four scanned pages. If your PDF was made from a Word document and is mostly text, it may already fit with the text still selectable: we always try that first.
Scanned and photographed pages need more work. We redraw them as images, starting sharp and getting softer only until the file fits under 200,000 bytes. If it can't fit while staying readable, you'll see the smallest size we reached and some ways to get under the limit.
Different limit? Try the 100 KB or 500 KB pages, or pick Exact size on Compress PDF to type your own.
Questions
How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?
Choose your PDF here and press Compress PDF. The 200 KB limit is preset. You'll see the final size in KB and in bytes before you download.
Will my resume still have selectable text?
If it fits under 200 KB with only a light clean-up, yes, and we try that first. If it needs more, pages are saved as images and the text can be read but not selected. Some job sites read the text of a resume, so if yours does, keep it text-based and make it smaller at the source instead, for example by using smaller images in the original document.
How many pages fit in 200 KB?
It depends on the pages. Typed text fits easily. For scans, about two to four pages usually stay clear. More pages are possible but look softer.
My PDF is already under 200 KB. What now?
Then you don't need to compress it. We'll tell you its exact size so you can upload the original.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
