About this tool
Sending a Word file can go wrong: the other person may not have Word, or the layout can shift on their device. A PDF looks the same everywhere and is what most forms, job applications and offices ask for.
The conversion happens entirely in your browser, so private letters, CVs and contracts never leave your device. The text in the PDF can be searched and copied.
The layout is very close to the original but not always identical. Fonts that aren't installed on your device are replaced with similar ones, and some advanced Word features, such as text boxes laid over other content, tracked changes and comments, may look different or be left out. Always check important documents before sending them.
Questions
Which Word files can I convert?
Documents in the .docx format, which Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all use by default. Older .doc files (Word 97–2003) can't be read in the browser. Open them and use Save As to choose .docx first.
Will my document look the same?
Very close. Text, styles, tables, pictures, lists, headers, footers and page numbers are kept. Page breaks may fall in slightly different places, and fonts missing from your device are swapped for similar ones.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The PDF is made in your browser on your own device. Your document isn't sent to us or anyone else, so nothing needs deleting afterwards.
Can I select and search the text in the PDF?
Yes. Each page is saved as a sharp image of your document with the text layered behind it, so you can search, select and copy it in your PDF reader. Because the pages are images, the PDF is larger than one made by Word itself, and zooming in very far shows some softness.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 500 MB and 300 pages. Very long documents with many pictures take longer and need more memory, so a computer works best for those.
