How to compare two PDFs

  1. Add both versions

Choose the original and the changed version. You can add them one at a time and swap them.

  2. Choose text or visual

Text lists added and removed words. Visual highlights every area that looks different.

  3. Review the changes

Click a change in the list to jump to it, or step through the pages side by side.

About this tool

Comparing by eye is slow and it's easy to miss a changed number or a deleted clause. This tool reads both documents and shows every difference, so you can check a contract revision, a new version of a policy or an edited report in minutes.

Text comparison works on PDFs that contain real text. For scanned documents, or to catch changes in pictures and layout, use the visual comparison, which compares the pages as images.

Questions

Which comparison should I use?

Text, for documents created on a computer; it lists each change in words. Visual, for scans or when layout and pictures matter.

Are the files uploaded?

No. Both PDFs are read and compared in your browser on your own device.

Does it work if pages were added or removed?

Yes for text: the comparison follows the words, wherever they moved. The visual comparison compares page 1 with page 1 and so on, so an added page shifts everything after it.

Is there a size limit?

Up to 500 pages per PDF. Very long documents with many changes take longer.
